Tales of Link, main story: 2.4.02 - Barracks ~Scream of Despair~, End

confession time: link has about fifty different ways of referring to its enemies/magic/evil stuff. not having played the global version, I am mostly making up what each term corresponds to in English. even more annoying is that most of them begin with 魔, which can refer to evil or just to magical things.

魔獣 (majuu): lit. "magical beast"; I've just been using the "ruinator" word for them. unclear if localization only used that word for 種の魔獣 (beasts from the Seeds), though, or if ruinator is the catch-all term.
魔物 (mamono): monster of the supernatural variety. I just call these monsters.
魔神 (majin): lit. "evil god," devil/evil spirit/whatnot. by the time they started talking about these, I was just about done and went with demons. they're a step up from the typical monsters.
魔性 (mashou): "devilish" in the adjective sense, but that sounds pretty stupid in translation.

so if you're wondering why the terminology changes, it's because the original keeps coming up with new words and I am crying.

We battle with the transformed monsters and the demon.
The monsters aren't particularly strong on their own, but there are lots of them.
The room has become a battleground. The monsters appear one after another, with no indication that their numbers are decreasing.
It'll take everything we've got to break through so many and retreat.
And the "evil demon" blocks us in the same way.
Zephyr: Jolt Blow!
Sara: Glint Kick!
Demon: Groooooooooar!
I jump back and dodge its swing.
It's slow, but its strength is such that the force of its attack swinging through the air sends me off-balance, even though it doesn't connect.
Even though our attacks had hit, they don't seem to have had any effect.
Should we attack? Should we throw everything we have at it to make it fall back? While I'm thinking--
Yuri readies his sword.
Yuri: ...We've gotta hit it with all our strength.
That said, he takes a deep breath.
I realize that he's focusing all his power on his sword.
From his head to the tips of his toes, from his arms to his hands, from the hilt to the swordtip--
His focus is so strong I can almost see it, filling the room with the sense of the sword.
If I attack now, I'll disrupt what he's doing.
Sara seems to feel the same way. She backs down slowly.
All that stands before Yuri now are the monsters.
Demon: Grrrrooooooooooar!
The monsters leap forward like the demon's roar is a command.
Against them, Yuri's strength continues to rise.
The moment he leaps forward, about to release his ultimate sword arte--
???: I've been waiting for this.
…?
Shiiiiiiiiiiiiiing!
In the next instant, before my eyes--
Yuri: --augh!?
Yuri is hit by a monster's attack and is sent flying.
There's a magic formula I've never seen before coiled around his left arm.
And--
A man standing where Yuri had been, by the monster's side, a shining, dazzling sphere in the palm of his hand.
The man who had silently drawn closer and touched Yuri's left arm the moment Yuri had focused all his attention on the enemy.
Sesque.
