Zephyr: !?
The scene laid out before us is truly bizarre.
The footprints and disturbed earth look as though a full platoon had been fighting.
Swords and armor are scattered atop the ground. There seem to be the right number of those as well.
But there is no sign of the numerous people who should be wearing them. There are only three people to be seen.
One is lying flat on the ground as if he was attacked, clutching his stomach and groaning.
Among the other two people, one is a large man in armor. He's probably a soldier.
The other is a woman with one hand wrapped around his throat, holding him in the air.
Then -- that arm lets off a strong red light. And--
"Gyaaaaaaaah!?"
The large man in armor vanishes, leaving behind only his scream.
...A human was eaten with that arm--
A person with a demonic arm--
That is the "man-eating monster."
--Then I see the flash of a sword swinging down at that abnormal hand.
Sesque: Bastaaaaaaaaaaard!
The soldier who had been lying collapsed musters his strength for a single blow.
Sesque: How dare you! You killed everyone, my comrades...!
I recognize him.
Zephyr: (He's the one we met on the ship…!)
The man they referred to as the captain--
With no one by his side, fueled by rage and loneliness, he swings his sword--
And it's deflected by the blade mounted in the woman's right-hand gauntlet.
Sesque: ...ugh!?
The captain's stance is broken, and the demon left arm reaches for his neck--
--In that moment.
Shiiiiiiiiin!
Yuri: We can't overlook something like this.
Zephyr: Stop right there, "man-eating monster."
Yuri swings his sword to fend her off, and it clashes sharply with the woman's blade.
At the same time, I close in to fend her off, hitting the demon arm with Dispersal Fist and canceling its force. [1]
I put in enough strength to knock her down, but she gives no sign of that.
Zephyr: (The magic of her arm canceled the magic I hit her with…)
The strange sensation given off by that arm sends a shiver down my spine.
Maybe Yuri feels the same thing--
Yuri: Hey, you're in the way. Get back!
Sesque: Y-Yeah…! Sorry!
Behind me, I hear the sound of footsteps retreating.
From Yuri's words, he understands how threatening this enemy is.
Not understanding our sense of being threatened, the one we are facing off with asks us with an unconcerned expression.
Man-eating monster?: Who are you? A friend of theirs… doesn't look like it…
Zephyr: That's our line.
We don't know who she is, but…
She'd eaten one of these country's soldiers with her arm before our very eyes.
And from my whole body -- the power to sense evil that dwelled within an envoy was telling me.
Out of the four of us -- Yuri, the captain, me, and the woman...
The only one giving off that sense of evil was this woman…
This woman must be a hint to the darkness that surrounds this island.
I prepare to subdue her by force--
--but then.
--She seems to notice that we intend to attack.
The will to fight also arises from her.
Man-eating monster?: ...whoever you are, I won't hold back if you get in my way.
Yuri: She… don't let your guard down, Zephyr!
Zephyr: Yeah!
[1] Translating Is Suffering. This is a proper name for one of Zephyr's artes (魔力操打). However, as far as I can tell, Global never translated and named it as such. After digging through and comparing scripts for that English and Japanese versions (harder than it sounds; there's no "proper" transcript of the Japanese that I've found), I'm pretty sure it's the "defensive arte that slightly diverts, then disperses the flow of magical energy" in The Blade of Prayers End/Link by Spiral Light.
